Last week I went to London Fashion Week and conducted interviews about the basic question: ‘what is art?’ to get some insight into the ways that art is seen by different people, and especially in this case, those with a foot or life in the fashion industry. Here is a selection of perspectives from gorgeous and fascinating interviewees (more to come!):
Name: Dudley
Reason for attending LFW: Model for Dr. Noki
Me: What is art?
D: It's creative and a chance to be individual. It's important to be different.
Me: What do you think of the clothes you were modelling earlier?
D: They are about diversity, mixing it up, like for example the New Era caps.
Name: Nick
Reason for attending LFW: Press
Me: What is art?
N: It's about everyone's individuality and ideas. It's not about being cliquey. Creativity is really important.
Name: Ivan
Reason for attending LFW: Blogger
Me: What is art?
I: I think a lot of contemporary art plays up to the media. It's 'contemporary art', it's so self-reflexive and it's all about ideologies which makes it kind of elitist...There's a lot that's more interesting going on in, say, contemporary music and fashion.
